System Administrator (E-commerce sphere)

Company Background

Our client is a $1.6B clothing retailer operating primarily in the U.S., but also maintaining a small presence in Europe, Japan, and Australia.  The company base operating model is to advertise via catalogs and sell clothes direct to consumers on its website.  The company’s products adhere to a preppy, classic American style, are priced at a medium high price point, and are considered above average (but not luxury) in quality.

Project Description

You would be responsible for architecting & engineering solutions for Linux and Unix servers. You may also be asked participate in installation and configuration of one or more of the following: Windows servers, Network systems, and telecommunication systems. You respond to escalated systems alerts, investigate and recover hardware\software failures, identify and resolve service-level problems and identify and support of mission-critical tasks. You would have direct communication with IT groups, business units, and vendors.

Job Requirements
  • A high level of interpersonal, problem-solving, analytical, and computer skills. Work involves a high level of independent judgment, decision-making, accuracy, creativity and initiative;
  • Education and/or experience equivalent to a minimum of an Associate’s degree from an accredited college, university, or vocational college with a degree in computer sciences or a related discipline. A minimum of 5 or more years of relevant working experience;
  • Candidate is emerging as a solution expert in one of the below areas, generally requires a current certification in that area of expertise;
  • Strong familiarity with desktop\server operating systems (Windows and Linux), PCs, servers, Network, storage technologies and monitoring;
  • Experience with networking technologies, (LAN/WAN, Layer2/3, Routing, IPS, VPN’s, VLAN’s, DHCP, DNS, ACL’s);
  • Strong familiarity with virtualization software;
  • Experience with AWS infrastructure as code;
  • Experience with Puppet, Satellite, Foreman, Spacewalk, RHEL, CentOS, AIX, VMWare, Oracle, very desirable;
  • Chef, Ansible, ServiceNow, Atlassian (Jira/Confluence) experience desirable;
  • May have experience with digital telecommunications and phone equipment;
  • Strong familiarity with security & security best practices;
  • Strong familiarity with using industry standard practices for supporting complex infrastructure environment;
  • Demonstrated excellent, effective and professional, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including strong listening skills;
  • Ability to effectively deal with stressful and confrontational situations;
  • Ability to achieve performance goals, both individual and team;
  • Ability to work and remain flexible in a fast-paced, constant priorities-changing environment;
  • Proven abilities and effectiveness in problem resolution and quick decision-making;
  • Willingness and ability to work with minimal supervision;
  • Willingness and desire to learn and cross-train in different areas;
  • Demonstrated effective time management skills;
  • Tier III support for System Administrators, troubleshooting & resolutions for server/storage/network/software issues;
  • Work with senior team members to design new solutions that align with business objectives;
  • May install/configure/support server installations on both physical and virtual environments, in on-premise and cloud-hosted configurations;
  • Research new technology (hardware\software);
  • Evaluate performance and optimize servers/storage/network equipment and suggest solutions as needed;
  • Design and configure Microsoft Active Directory infrastructure and/or other LDAP and Access Control systems;
  • Experienced with Linux and Windows, but would primarily support Linux;
  • Monitor system performance, reliability, and security;
  • Experience with backup software, Commvault or similar;
  • Experience with monitoring software: SolarWinds or similar;
  • Experience with access control software: Centrify or similar;
  • Support all Infrastructure related projects;
  • Install and configure a wide variety of server/storage/network technologies;
  • Ensure compliance with security procedures and standards;
  • Develop assessments that provide an understanding and resolution to outages, capacity issues, quality problems and security related events;
  • Install and administer commercial and proprietary software;
  • Involved in IT projects as a resource for completing technical tasks or acting as technical lead;
  • Monitor user requests and maintain work order queue;
  • Participate in an On-call rotation for after-hours support;
  • Perform additional duties as requested by Supervisor and/or Management;
  • Works closely with, Infrastructure team members, Development, Quality Assurance and project teams;
  • Works closely with business customers;
  • Works closely with vendors and consultants and may act as a key contact;
